A new Performing Arts Centre was built next to the existing school buildings at Nottingham Girls School for use by the school to stage both large- and small-scale productions, as well as for assemblies, lectures and other occasions.
Part of the specification was for a tension wire grid to be installed over the 260-seat auditorium. Cablenet was chosen to fulfil this important role, providing safe, high-level access for both pupils and teaching staff.
At the time of installation a lot of construction work was taking place at ground level. Hence we worked from a scaffold deck which provided an intermediate floor on which we could build the grid, prior to lifting it in place.

The installation comprised one Cablenet grid 10m x 8.15m.
The grid is used to house the theatre’s lighting rig, together with some sound equipment. The hangers and the hand-railing for the Cablenet are made from the same 43.8 mm diameter tubing as that of standard theatrical lighting bars for additional versatility – allowing them the option of using these for lantern storage or for clamping lighting fixtures in place for performances.
